FAQ’s

It is the discretion of the client to have their home or business monitored, although it is generally recommended to monitor most alarm systems. A monitored alarm system acts as another set of eyes watching the premises when the owner or staff is not present. An additional benefit to monitoring your alarm system is that you can save $$$ on your insurance premiums! Once M & R Security Inc. has you monitored we mail you a certificate to provide to your insurance company. M & R Security Inc. can provide further information on our monitoring.

No. The alarm system will contact the central monitoring station. A monitoring station operator will proceed to call the premises to verify the alarm condition. If the operator cannot reach anyone at the premises, they will proceed to contact your property references, a guard company, or the police (depending on the level of response desired by the customer). In fact, police departments are quickly limiting the number of alarm responses as services that they will attend due to false alarm issues. As a note, in case of false alarm, it is advisable that the customer always contact the central station to verify that an alarm sent in is indeed false, and that no dispatch is required.

Typically a ‘false alarm’ means that an Alarm Dispatch Request was sent to a local police station. A responding police officer finds no evidence of a break in or vandalism or attempted break in or vandalism after having completed an investigation of the Alarm Site. False alarms are a huge problem in the industry, accounting for 90 to 95 percent of all dispatches. Some municipalities have resorted to a system of registration and fines for people who have too many false alarms. Most often, false alarms are caused by user error, failure to update information for example, a change of phone service or user code and environmental issues.

Yes, every alarm system is supplied with a back-up battery which will maintain your alarm for several hours. In the event your battery is low, a low battery signal will be sent to the monitoring station and you will be notified. Please contact us at info@mnrsecurity.ca in the event of a low battery notification to set up a service call to replace the batteries.
